Understanding our supplier partners’ processes firsthand is crucial for OECM to better serve our customers. On June 25, our team embarked on an educational tour of Global Furniture Group, one of the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) on OECM’s Educational Furniture and Related Services and Office Space Furniture and Related Services agreements. We visited their Global Village facility and gained valuable insights into quality furniture manufacturing and innovation.
A Glimpse into Quality Control
During the tour, OECM staff were introduced to the quality control processes that Global Furniture Group employs to ensure their products meet the highest standards. The testing lab, operational for over 28 years, conducts BIFMA (Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association) testing along with in-house tests to ensure product durability. Their ability to recreate field failures in their lab enables them to develop better and long-lasting furniture. They also test outsourced and offshore products to maintain quality across all offerings.
Innovation Through Research and Development
According to Global Furniture Group, innovation is at the heart of their operations. Our tour included an in-depth look at their advanced research and development efforts. We were impressed by the cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches they use to create ergonomic designs and sustainable furniture solutions. Their farm-to-table manufacturing approach, including the use of recycled aluminum, and their adaptation to modern trends like short leases and easy dismantling for installation and moving, demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. Their dedication to continuous improvement and innovation is truly commendable and aligns with OECM’s values.
Discovering New Furniture Offerings
One of the tour’s highlights was exploring Global Furniture Group’s latest furniture offerings. We had the opportunity to see their newest designs, which focus on ergonomics and sustainability. The innovative use of materials, including recycled aluminum, PET felt made from polyester fiber with a high content (50%) of post-recycled material, and thoughtful design elements showcased their commitment to creating furniture that they noted exceed industry standards. We also learned about their Level 3 ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Certification, the highest level for seating, and their rigorous internal testing processes, which they describe as going beyond industry standards. Additionally, their products are LEED-certified, providing potential customers with comprehensive testing data.
