OECM Health and Wellness Initiatives Update

November 25, 2021

As part of OECM’s commitment to promoting work/life balance and optimal mental and physical health, the Supply Management and Customer Relations (SMCR) Wellness Wednesday initiative was implemented this summer!

The new SMCR Wellness Wednesday initiative consists of monthly one-hour virtual sessions where multi-disciplinary experts touch on various nutritional, physical, and mental wellness topics.

On August 25th, the first virtual session, Anxiety and Depression – Nutrition, Movement and Lifestyle Strategies, presented by Dr. Marc Bubbs, a Naturopathic Doctor, Author, and Performance Nutrition Coach, took place. During the presentation, OECM’s staff explored best practices and strategies to improve overall lifestyle and stay healthy while working from home and after returning to work.

Following are some of the tips Dr. Hubbs shared with OECM’s staff that may be beneficial to you too!

  • Sleep 7-9 hours daily or at least 50 hours a week.
  • Build your meals starting with protein (animal or plant-powered), aiming for 1.2 Kg per day divided into 3-4 meals.
  • Adopt a ‘wind down’ routine 1-hour before bed by turning off devices, stretching your body, reading, etc.
  • Include micronutrients to boost your mood (e.g., Vitamin D and Omega 3)

Additionally, on September 15th and again on November 17th our staff had the opportunity to participate in UTKATA Yoga sessions. Canada’s first and only 30-minute virtual chair yoga for fast-paced work environments, where employees only need a chair.

These activities were well-received by our staff, and more initiatives are part of the agenda for the remainder of the year!
