Supporting Work/Life Balance While Working From Home

At OECM, we emphasize that maintaining work/life balance is critical for optimal mental and physical health. Understanding the extra strains that the pandemic has put onto OECM staff, OECM’s Human Resources Department and Senior Council have been working to ensure staff feel supported.

As part of these efforts, we have been conducting periodic staff wellness surveys, as well as providing tips for ‘switching off’ at the end of the day. Additionally, we have been conducting regularly checks in with staff through an employee well-being survey to assess employee comfort with working from home, stress levels, and to gather feedback on transitioning back-to-work in an office setting post pandemic and lifting of restrictions.

“The most recent survey results offered vital insights that will help OECM formulate a safe and secure transition plan,” explains Janet Clarke, OECM’s Senior Manager of Human Resources. “The survey also allowed our management teams to conduct open forum discussions with their staff to discuss anxieties and stresses surrounding the pandemic, work from home challenges, and future goals. We will continue to provide a variety of tools and resources for staff – for more information log on to www.homeweb.ca.”

Following are a few tips and resources shared with OECM’s staff that may be beneficial to you too!

  • Have a designated work space which you can leave when your workday is done
  • Leave your work communication devices in your designated work space when your workday is done
  • Take time to socialize with colleagues
  • Take your lunch break
  • Get up and move several times throughout the day
