In late February 2022, OECM hosted the 2nd Ontario Sector Leadership & Collaboration Invitational Networking Symposium at Blue Mountain Inn in Collingwood, Ontario. The theme for this first ‘in-person’ event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic was ‘Leveraging the power of collaboration amongst and between School Boards, Colleges and Universities and other provincial partners.’
Over two days, more than 90 senior leaders and valued partners from Ontario’s Education, Health, and Municipal sectors had the unique chance to discuss future opportunities for collaboration and share their perspectives on leadership and partnership during these unprecedented and demanding times.
Following the success of the first Symposium held in 2019, this year’s event agenda included collaboration discussion joint sessions, panel sessions and presentations from 5 esteemed guest speakers:
- Bonnie Lysyk, Auditor General of Ontario
- Dr. Joe MacInnis, Canadian physician-scientist
- Kendal Netmaker, Nechie Gear® Founder and master storyteller
- Dr. Opiyo Oloya, Western University’s Associate Vice-President of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
- Frank P. Rochon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Supply Ontario.
Ian C. Smith, Vice President of StrategyCorp, led a two-part collaboration discussion joint session during the event. During the first collaboration discussion joint session, attendees had the opportunity to explore six sub-themes related to collaboration across sectors. The second and final session reviewed the results, and outcomes and suggested next steps generated from the first session.
The 2022 Symposium also included two illuminating panel sessions featuring ‘Collaboration Champions’ from across sectors who came together to discuss the benefits of OECM’s model for sharing success through collaboration, and the value of strategic partnerships.
In addition to the learning and collaboration opportunities, the 2022 Symposium was an occasion to give back to the community. OECM held a charity raffle, raising $6,000 in support of Indspire, an Indigenous national charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people for the long-term benefit of these individuals and their families, communities, and Canada.
