CFMS-West was formally incorporated in 2004, and today stands as an experienced, fully independent commissioning company—a member in good standing with the Building Commissioning Association (BCxA). They have grown to provide total building commissioning services, with particular experience in mechanical and electrical systems, as well as specialty-building systems such as archives, data centres, laboratories and renewables.
A business is only as good as the people it employs. Each of their team members have years of experience with the construction process, energy management systems, project management, and total building and LEED commissioning. For every unique project, they assemble a unique team—one that will effectively work with the design, construction and building owner’s teams, to deliver the goals of the commissioning or facilities-management process. Helping to ensure success, each of their senior staff members has considerable years’ experience in commissioning.
CFMS-West are members of (and actively participate in training opportunities from) the Building Commissioning Association (BCxA), the Canada Green Building Council, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). In 2013, they became the first Certified Commissioning Firm (a BCxA certification) in the country.
Each of their professionals also brings his or her own commissioning and field experience, adding to CFMS-West’s impressive list of qualifications. These certifications include: Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.),Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), LEED BD+C, and Automated Controls Specialist.
The goal of the Commissioning process is to provide documented confirmation that a facility, and its equipment, fulfills the functional and performance requirements of the Owner, occupants and operators.
Throughout their 25 years in business, CFMS-West have worked on a wide range of projects, varying in size and scope. These include hospitals, libraries, government buildings, corporate offices, high-rise condominiums, transit facilities, recreation centres, theatres, art galleries, and more.
Their LEED accredited professionals with an in-depth knowledge of building automation systems combined with measurement and verification can easily facilitate new LEED credits such as monitoring based commissioning.
They strongly believe in sustainability—100+ LEED® projects with certification levels ranging from LEED® Certified to LEED® Platinum to their credit. In fact, sustainable buildings have become a focal point of their business, and they are active on exciting NetZero and Net+ve Energy projects under construction. They will adhere to owner’s project requirements to ensure the overall performance of your building systems, balancing functional needs for today with sustainability for tomorrow. CFMS-West have provided all forms of commissioning services for many diverse projects ranging in size from 10,000 to over 1,600,000 square feet.
CFMS-West will quickly get engaged with team members once the selection process has been completed. Their role is to assist the project team to successfully execute the project by utilizing the commissioning process deliverables (Cx Plan, IOC Log, Training Program, CPM, Cx Schedule); With this knowledge they will assist the commissioning team (Owners, Engineers, Architects, Contractors) with the delivery and execution of the project including activities specific to meeting the owner’s project requirements.
